When will 2020 Commencement ceremonies take place?
In-person events on campus and sponsored by the university will comply with current executive and local orders and guidelines (including the Safe Return order of Gov. Tate Reeves’s reopening plan and the City of Oxford’s Serving Oxford Safely plan), as well as public health recommendations. Please refer to these orders for more specifics.
These parameters apply to all university events, including Commencement. We remain committed to holding an in-person ceremony for the Class of 2020. Currently, these restrictions prevent us from celebrating the number of people who graduated in 2020. Once we know when it will be safe to host large events in compliance with executive and local orders, we will announce the new date for an in-person Commencement.
In order to recognize and celebrate the significant achievements of the members of the Class of 2020, the university held a live, virtual event on May 9. Read the message for additional details. This event was not intended to replace commencement ceremonies for the class of 2020. A final decision on a date for these commencement ceremonies will be driven by public health considerations.
