Please see the university’s quarantine and isolation guidelines, which are in accordance with current guidance from the Mississippi Department of Health, and can assist University of Mississippi students living on campus who need to isolate or quarantine due to COVID-19.
See more info from Student Housing related to the quarantine and isolation policies and procedures.
Contact Student Housing at 662-915-7328 or housing@olemiss.edu to discuss quarantine and isolation options that are available to you and the ways in which the university can support you. The options for isolation involve temporary relocation to a designated isolation space on campus or returning to your family residence. The preferred options for quarantine are the same as isolation, although some Student Housing residents may have the option to temporarily quarantine in place in their assigned on-campus living space. Students are encouraged to consult with their families to consider all options for isolation or quarantine.
These options are intended to create the necessary windows of time to minimize the possibility of spreading the virus to other members of the university community. See the end of this document for instructions how to return at the end of the isolation or quarantine period.
RELOCATE TO DESIGNATED ON CAMPUS SPACE TO ISOLATE OR QUARANTINE
Following a conversation with Student Housing, you will receive a confirmation email if your plan calls for you to relocate to a different space on campus. This email will cover a variety of steps and protocols you must follow, including:
- Timeline to complete your move to the quarantine or isolation space. Our intent is for you to spend your first night in a quarantine or isolation space the day after receiving your initial notice from Student Housing.
- Personal items: These spaces have furniture only, so you are encouraged to bring everything you will need, such as bedding (pillow, blanket, sheets), towels, toiletries, medications, school supplies, books, computer, chargers, food and drink, paper products and other personal items. You will not be able to return to your original space before the isolation or quarantine period has lapsed. You can, however, leave anything in your room that you do not need during the isolation or quarantine period.
- Keys: Certain isolation or quarantine spaces will require a physical key, while others can be assigned to your university student ID. Student Housing will determine which type of key you need based on which space you’ll be assigned and communicate that to you directly.
- Meals: Dining Services can provide contactless meal delivery to you on request. This service can be provided without a previously purchased meal plan. Additional documentation on this process and how to sign up for this service will be provided by Student Housing.
- Parking: If you have a car on campus, please email parking@olemiss.edu and inform them you have moved to quarantine or isolation housing. Please include your name, student ID number, Fall 2021 building name, and quarantine or isolation location. Parking accommodations will be made for you to park in the designated area for the building you have been temporarily moved to. Please DO NOT go to the Office of Parking and Transportation Services.
- Student requirements: Students will be required to adhere to the following expectations during stays in quarantine or isolation space:
- Policies and procedures: Students will be expected to follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the Student Housing contract.
- Mask and social distancing: Masks MUST be worn at all times and social distancing guidelines MUST be followed when outside of the quarantine or isolation space for fresh air and/or food retrieval.
- Visitation: Visitation is strictly prohibited while a student is living in quarantine or isolation housing.
- Emergencies on property: Students will be required to follow all emergency protocols enforced by the quarantine or isolation property (such as a fire alarm).
- Trash: Trash will need to be disposed in the following manner:
- Brown Hall: Remove all trash from room by placing it in the trash room located on the floor.
- Campus Walk, Northgate and Village Apartments: Students will need to put in a Maintenance Request for trash pick-up. Trash must be placed in a tied-off bag outside room door for pickup.
RELOCATE OFF CAMPUS TO FAMILY RESIDENCE OR ELSEWHERE TO SAFELY ISOLATE OR QUARANTINE AWAY FROM UM COMMUNITY MEMBERS

- Personal items: You should take everything you will need for your isolation or quarantine period such as bedding (pillow, blanket, sheets), towels, toiletries, medications, school supplies, books, computer, chargers, food and drink, paper products, and other personal items. RETURNING TO ASSIGNMENT FOLLOWING COMPLETION OF ISOLATION OR QUARANTINE
ISOLATION — For returning from on campus and off campus isolation:
In order to gain access back to your assigned campus living space you must:
- Receive clearance from your healthcare provider. This should be a form stating when your isolation ends.
- Submit your clearance to the HIPAA-compliant UM Box.
- Student Health Services will communicate with Student Housing to inform the office that you are free to return.
- Student Housing will send you an email confirming that you can return to your assigned space.
- You WILL NOT be allowed to re-enter your space without prior approval verified by SHS and Student Housing.
- Returns will be processed by Student Housing Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- When you return to room, if there are any difficulties accessing your room, please visit your front desk.
*For more information about isolation, please see current guidance from the Mississippi State Department of Health.
QUARANTINE — For returning from on campus and off campus quarantine:
- Once you have completed your quarantine period (end date indicated on the Quarantine Certificate issued by the university’s Contract Tracing Team) and you are symptom-free, you do not need additional documentation and you can return to your assigned campus living space.
- If you do not have a Quarantine Certificate from the university’s Contact Tracing Team or a physician’s order showing when your quarantine ends, you can submit this digital attestation, which requires logging into your MyOleMiss account. Once completed, you can return to your assigned campus living space. If needed, you can share the attestation with your residence hall building staff or professors upon request.
Additionally, if you are returning from designated quarantine space by Student Housing:
- You will need to notify housing@olemiss.edu when you have checked-out of the on-campus quarantine location and you plan to move back to your permanent assigned campus living space.
*If it is unclear to you when your quarantine period ends, please see current guidance from the Mississippi State Department of Health.
