Vaccine Administration Record
We strongly encourage every student and employee to sign up for an appointment to get vaccinated. You may also register a vaccine through the Mississippi drive through sites.
Who is eligible to get a vaccine on campus?
Gov. Tate Reeves and the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) announced that the state is now giving COVID-19 vaccines to all Mississippi residents (note that the vaccines are indicated for those 16 and older depending on which vaccine you receive). This includes non-resident students, who can use their Oxford/campus address when registering for a vaccine. The on-campus vaccination site serves everyone in the University of Mississippi community — faculty, staff, graduate students and undergraduate students. The vaccine will be administered free of charge.
How do I make an appointment to get vaccinated?
Please use the vaccine appointment scheduler to make an appointment to receive a vaccine inside the Tad Smith Coliseum.
You will be asked to fill out a medical intake form and bring it with you to the appointment – please do so if you’re able. Blank paperwork will also be available at the vaccination site and you will also receive a parking pass if you need one.
If you need to change or cancel your appointment, please reply to the appointment confirmation email you received.
Where and when can I get the vaccine?
Vaccination will take place inside the Tad Smith Coliseum on the Concourse. Social distancing and mask-wearing guidelines will be observed in the Coliseum.
You may park in the Coliseum parking lot and enter the Coliseum at your appointment time through the right main entrance around the Concourse. Please plan to arrive several minutes early. A parking pass and a few medical forms will be emailed to you to complete and bring to the appointment.
Which vaccine is available on campus?
The university will be administering second-dose Pfizer vaccines to those members of the campus community who received their first dose on campus. Those individuals will receive an email confirmation of their second-dose appointment day and time.
To be effective, TWO doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine are required. Both doses must be the same vaccine. The second Pfizer vaccine dose should be given within 3-6 weeks after your first dose. For additional information about how the Pfizer vaccine uses mRNA, please watch this video by Dr. Joshua Sharp, Associate Professor of Pharmacology.
What can I expect from the appointment?
Pharmacists and trained student pharmacists under the supervision of a clinical pharmacist will administer the vaccine, and can answer questions at the appointment. After you have received your dose of the vaccine, you will be asked to remain in an observation area for 15 minutes for monitoring. The whole appointment should last no longer than 30 minutes. You will receive a vaccination card at your appointment to help keep track of your place in the vaccination process and to provide proof of vaccination if needed.
Personal health concerns
If you have a history of anaphylaxis* and carry an EpiPen, you will need to receive your vaccine in a clinical setting such as Baptist Memorial Hospital. You can schedule an appointment with BHM by calling 662-636-4353.
*anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reactions that leads to wheezing, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, rash, swelling in throat and lowered blood pressure that starts between 5-30 minutes after contact with an allergen.
What safety protocols should I follow after being vaccinated?
The CDC considers those who are more than two weeks past their last vaccination dose to be fully vaccinated. See the CDC’s interim public health recommendations for fully vaccinated people.
Who is paying for the COVID-19 vaccine?
The vaccine is free of charge. Those with or without insurance will not have to pay for the vaccine if they receive it from the University of Mississippi.
What if I have more questions?
If you need to change or cancel your appointment, please reply to the appointment confirmation email you received.
